Visitor

The grounds shuddered. The air hummed along with urgency.

Something was happening.

Its kin at rest, a lone creature emerged from its dwelling, peering out toward the meeting line of void and land.

The hum grew violent as the void tore open with a flash. From the tear, a being of another kind tumbled into the creature’s world. Grounds shaking beneath them, the being heaved upright and cried out as it lunged toward the closing tear, but the hum stopped, the lands stilled.

The visitor remained.

It discovered its onlooker and both understood, the visitor was there to stay.

  1. You make me enjoy sci-fi, Rebecca! The scene popped visually, and then I felt the potential emotions on both sides of the realization that the visitor was there to stay. You do that well — you build tension and excitement but then you allow for the human emotions to slowly rise. I’d say that’s part of your voice as an author.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Charli. Us writers work so hard to discover our voice, it’s nice to feel it emerging and to have others experience the evidence of it too. Writing polished pieces on a vast array of concepts and themes, week after week, has been invaluable. I’m glad you’re enjoying my little slice of the sci-fi realm too, it’s become a mission of mine to encourage positivity and hope in humanity and technology through the genre. If I can intrigue readers to feel and think through these stories, I’m doing what I dream to be.
