Somewhere Over

Human structures buzzed. Cat flicked ears. Crept beneath un-alive bushes with strange smells. Made the journey to Secret Place.

Too many humans at Dark now. Can’t handle Day anymore.

Cat ruffled fur, warm air reaching skin.

“Right there!” A child.

“Shut up. Get inside.” Child’s Human.

Child’s eyes met Cat’s as Human shoved Child through door-portal.

Cat couldn’t stand human structures. Stifling and shut-in and stinking of apes.

In silence Cat and Child met. Window-sheets fluttering.

“Your fur’s so beautiful,” Child marveled, “can I call you Rainbow?”

Cat purred.

Rainbow and Child spent all Darks together from then on.

  1. Beginning of A beautiful friendship. I love cats, and yeah the purring says it all, and my cat is actually looking at me for food 😅 that says, she is hungry 😉. Have a Lovely day…🤗💐

    1. Cats are marvellous creatures, they’ve got us wrapped around their finger. Often they only come to us for food and spend the rest of their time in solitude. But I’m happy for that, I get awesome morning cuddles from our cats and then space to do my own thing after I feed them, until the evening. You too Simon!

  2. All animals can sense human kindness. I’ve read some fun books where cats help their owners solve mysteries. While some humans are more receptive that others to what the cat is conveying.

A relative has several cats, I was surprised last year when one of the more distant attitude cats sat in a chair next to me and pawed me for pets! I tease the cat that she brings me bad luck at cards… but maybe I’m just not the greatest card player either ;)

    1. We’re a family of animal lovers here, they make more sense than people, and they’re less demanding, or rather, more considerate of our own need for solitude and quiet. I fear some animals can’t detect the lack of kindness quite as well as others though, it’s why we’ve collected a few more than the average household… strays and “runt-of-the-litter” types, we couldn’t bear to leave them out in the world when our warm, safe home still had space.

It’s so humbling when a usually solitary animal accepts and chooses our company. And I’m sorry to say, I agree, it’s probably not the cat’s luck influencing your card skills haha but perhaps petting her might be distracting.

  3. I love the way you describe how two spirits found each other in a dark place.

My cat is presently stalking the computer mouse. He does cuddle on occasion. There are as many variations of cat as there are of human from, “I’ll pee in your shoe because you breathed wrong,” to “pet me pet me pet me….”
    😊

Never a dull moment when you’re owned by a cat.

    1. I couldn’t agree more! Our four cats were as different as anything. Our old boy was leader, everyone did what he wanted, but he was the perfect kind, knew just what to do, how to do it, when, why, and we’d always listen. He was never over the top, even when putting the other 3 back in their place. Then one of our others is at the other end, he’s the “petmepetmepetme” kind, all the time. Even when he pees on things and gets told off. They certainly bring endless intrigue to the home. And endless love.

And thank you for your kind words too, I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I didn’t intend Cat to be in a dark place either, but I can see that now. I love discovering the perspectives of others of my writing. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

    1. It is! There’s something beautiful about the relationship between a child and an animal. Their innocence combines to form a protective cocoon, almost as if this world of ours can’t touch them when they’re connected. It’s the embodiment of hope.
